FAQs

  • Dogs LOVE routine! Having them groomed monthly is best, as it becomes a regular part of life, minimizing stress. Longer coats and fancier trims require more frequent grooming. At minimum, we recommend every 8 weeks to help your dog remain comfortable and content with the grooming process, minimize matting, and keep their coat and skin healthy.

  • NOW! It’s a good idea to wait until they’ve had two rounds of vaccines and have had a couple of weeks to get used to their new home, but an early and positive introduction to grooming is very important. The first few grooms should be more about getting your puppy comfortable with the tools and the process than how they look. This means that we will usually just start with a bath, then the next time maybe some feet, face and sanitary trimming. Once the puppy is confident and comfortable with the basics we can move on to a full body haircut.

  • Ear plucking is a hot topic of debate lately and we highly recommend you discuss this with your veterinarian. There are many veterinary dermatologists that are recommending refraining from regular ear hair plucking as it can cause inflammation and micro trauma to the skin that can lead to infection. Here at RedDoor Grooming, we will trim any long hair coming from the ear canal and also around the ear opening to allow for better air flow.

  • We do not. This is best left to your veterinarian where they can completely empty the sacks with an internal expression while also checking for any abnormalities or infection.

  • Normal deshedding is included in our bath and haircut prices as it is proper maintenance for those coats that require it. However, excessive undercoat may incur an additional charge as more time, work, and product is needed.

  • You may cancel your grooming reservation by phone, text or email. We require at least 24 hours notice of cancellation. Any cancellation made without 24 hours notice is subject to a charge equalling 50% of the cost of the scheduled grooming service. If we arrive but the pet owner is not home or the pet is otherwise not available within 15 minutes of our arrival, the appointment will be treated as a no show and you will be subject to a charge equalling 100% of the cost of the scheduled grooming service.

  • If your dog is matted the humane thing to do is to clip them close and start over. Brushing out matting is painful and almost always damages the coat, which leads to more matting. Staying on a maintenance grooming schedule and proper at home brushing and combing is the best way to prevent uncomfortable mats!
